THE INTERNATIONAL OUT CRY FOR NIGERIAN SCHOOL GIRLS

MY VOICE

“BRING BACK OUR GIRLS”

By: C. Harrison/May 16, 2014/12:46am

I just got home; turned on my television to watch the 5 O’ clock news and caught the most damming horrific news story unfolding, that 300 hundred Nigerian boarding school girls were kidnapped by a militants group which, apparently was happening for most of the day—playing-out on all media circuits and mediums. The first thing I thought of was how old were these girls and upon learning their ages 12-15, I was fuming. I immediately called a couple of people and vented—thereafter felt crushed, because I knew that black men  in that part of the world have been doing this to girls in Africa for centuries. And to make matters worst, I had to think about all girls and boys who are being kidnapped on a daily basis around the globe.

On top of all that, we later learned that the Government of  Nigeria, was in fact warned and knew in advance of the impending assault by the militant group Boko Haram and its leader Abubarkar Shekau and their en route to kidnapped those girls from their boarding school in northern Nigeria, on April 15.  According to Amnesty International claimed, the military headquarter in Maiduguri was aware of the planned attack by around 7:00 PM on April 14.

Since then we have also learned that 50 of the girls had escaped of which some succumbed to snakebites, leaving 250 behind, believed to be divided into smaller groups to scar off detection. Moreover,  a video tape of the girls was shown to the world–where the ring or head leader Abubakar Shekau, claimed he would instead of enslaving and putting the girls into black markets slavery and marrying them off, he would release them in exchange for Boko Militants, imprisoned in Nigeria. These girls are just babies, little girls.

Thus far, U. S. Secretary State, John Kerry, have said a team of law enforcement, intelligence, and military expert are on the ground in Nigeria, to help with the necessary or possible use of counter terrorism means.  Also, on the ground in Nigeria are British diplomats and military officials, to help scour the vast northern terrain for the missing girls.

First Lady Michelle Obama, joined the international communities on the President’s weekly radio address, to plea herself, for the safe return of the girls. Nigerian protectors have also rallied to draw attention to the plight of the girls using the hashtag, “Bring Back Our Girls.”  The hashtag have been used 1 million times to send the message out by the global community.

My vent is this,  the audaciousness of these men are incredible. The smile on the leader’s face yet a concern look deep within the leaders eyes, showed that he doesn’t even know what he was truly doing, even though they had done it before; only he knew, that this time is different, they got caught and just maybe they wanted to be caught—maybe it was their time to show up themselves; but, the question is to what end–for the half chance that their imprisoned friends would come home. If the shoe was on the other foot and it was their daughter or sisters and mass gunmen or some militia group came and took their girls from their school—how would they feel or better yet what would their reaction be.

Another scenario would be, to look at who or what is motivating the group to kidnapped virgin girls or if money have exchanging hands, thus the reason to do it again because this was not their first time.  These kidnappers have kidnapped girls from schools across Nigeria before. We are living in 2014, and the dark days of Africa, should be behind us. These saboteurs by their abduction of these girls have sacrilege from us and set off nerves. These men are neurotic. Hashtag, “Bring Back Our Girls,” sooner rather than later.

ONE DOCTOR’S QUEST TO BE THE BEST AT TWO VERY DIFFERENT CAREERS

“I Don’t And Can’t Even Tell You The

Method To My Madness”

Dr. Calvin Peters

At face value, Dr. Calvin Peters, seem like any other doctor you would meet but, upon conversing with him, you’ll quickly realize that he is no ordinary individual; not only is he holding down a job as a physician, he’s also working seriously as an actor. Currently, he works at the University of Texes, Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He will be graduating in June, 2014.  Moreover,  in his acting career he is doing commercials, comedy, and he is singing for charity, of which he has thus far raised half a million dollars, for children at his hospital. Dr. Peters is not to be taken likely.

According to Dr. Peters, what he does is really difficult. He contents that he doesn’t get the time to hang out with friends. What gets him through the day is the fact that he is a very smart guy.  He said, “I am really smart, so I know how to concentrate; its like second nature to  me. I don’t and can’t even tell you the method to my madness, I consistently work. I have had a lot of supportive people around me and I am happy doing something that I really love.”  Reflecting on what he had accomplished, Peters joked that they actually had to bring cameras into the hospital and follow him around. He did internet commercials then.

Peters, was born August 14, in Forth Worth Texas, and is currently base in Dallas Texas. At eight months, he was adopted by Herbert and Barbara Andrus. His mother passed away of uterine cancer five years ago; he has two siblings, sister Jeanette and brother John, both lives in Forth Worth. Peters has since met his biological mother, Ruth—who lives in Minnesota and his father David who live in Forth Worth; he has developed a healthy adult relationship with both. Peters says that so far, he has had no problems with his biological parents. He noted that whenever you come into life later—especially into an adult relationship, its a bit hard. He further,  lamented that he knew from the very beginning that his mother had a son, who died; thus, the need to adopt children.

Peters, first began acting in church plays when he was eight and did his first monologue at his 5th grade graduation. He took his first acting class in the 6th grade, and this was the beginning of his acting quest. He also participated in  a district play, which he won best actor for the whole district in the 7th grade.  Throughout his middle and high school years, he did several plays and even completed performing in dramatic monologues in Latin, where he won 1st place at City, State, and National levels, four years in a row.  Though they were small roles, these were his foundations that initiated his curiosity for an acting profession.

Prompted for more about his acting career, Peters conceded that he did not do acting while he was in Med School. He explained that he did medical school for 4-years and did 90-hours work weeks, so he couldn’t do any acting while studying. He instead explained that.  he is now at the tail end of school and that was his reasoning for waiting to go back into acting. The good Doctor,  also confirmed that it was March of 2013, that he actually went back into his acting career. He did not even get an agent until January 2014.  “I was lucky each month, I have been able to book auditions every week,” he said.

In addition, he concurred that it is hard for him to say he enjoy doing both acting and being a Physician. He connoted that he would have to look at the benefits and draw backs of both professions. “I am not the broke type of guy, so I don’t want to be a broke actor,” he confided. He added that his medical career have different levels, and that at some point in the near future down the road he might hire people to help him.  Peters also asserted that it was something humane about what he did.  He said,  “I grew up poor, my brother and sister never when to college. I never had anything to prove. Its hard to say I wanted to be like anybody. I enjoy Chris Tucker and Martin Lawrence. You never know what will come your way in this life, you have to work and when opportunity comes, you are available for it.”

When pressed even further, about how really difficult these two career paths are and how aggressively he have been perusing both of them,  he pellucidly stated and unequivocally said,  “The acting is new on a professional level, I have just started to act. When I go to these classes it doesn’t feel like work, its natural for me. My Physician’s work is more like work. I don’t let it overwhelm me. I don’t get excited, so it doesn’t bother me. I stop getting intimidated because I have gone through Med School, where I learned to cope.”

This brave Doctor,  moreover  revealed that he always knew that he would become a doctor but, not the acting, he did not know that. “I never thought about it,” he articulated. This very smart Doctor, got good grades in school. Finally, Dr. Peters caved in on how hard all this really is; he reiterated that he was in fact pulling it off, by the grace of God. He contents that looking back at his life, where he came from and the drugs and gangs, when his light got turned off and his mother had an old type writer and he had to work with it, he had always gotten it done.

“I don’t know how I get this stuff done. I really don’t; this is who I am, ” he explained.  The biggest deal is my bosses are very supportive. I have never neglected anything on behalf of my patients. I keep the two compartments separated. I get people to cover me if I have patients, and I schedule very carefully, ” he said.

The proclamation of Doctor Peters is,  “People are very resilient and I have met some of the most extraordinary people doing amazing things; this helps me and I keep energy. When you have a big goal you have to have big guts. You never learn from success you learn from failures. Success, requires no explanations but, failure requires an explanation,” he says.

The Nation Letdown

GOP’S FAILUE TO HELP THE WORKING CLASS

By: C. Harrison/May 1, 2014

The gap between the rich and the working poor (the middle class) is getting ever so wider.  So, when the President announced that Congress should work together to raise the minimum wage from $7.50 an hour to $10.50 an hour, every-body in Congress, should’ve signed on to this Bill. But no, 6 members of Congress,  decided to spoil it all. Congressional Members voted 54 to 42 majority, can you believe it. The House needed a 60-vote majority to pass the Bill. Has its the Republicans, yes I can believe it. Republicans members killed the Bill.

This significant wage hike could have gone along way  for many families who are hurting right now; working but can’t make ends meet because each year the cost of living goes up but people’s paychecks are staying stagnant. This, in itself is a crime because the Government knows quite well that people can’t go on living this way and that their way of calculating what’s fare should be updated.

The increase could’ve helped so many individuals, college students, low wage earners as well as the middle class.  Its a crying shame that one of the richest nation on the planet is treating their populace as a second class nation. We can do better than this, no one should have to tell Congress that the nation needs a pay raise; they should know by what they are seeing in their own communities and what their constituents are telling them.

People at the next ballot box (election) speak your mine, let Congress know just how you feel about what they are doing to your pocket book.

By the way, people pay your tax because in some States the VMD is taking away people drivers lic, if you don’t pay up to the IRS.

Phone Scam The 411

What Low Life’s Are Doing

By: C. Harrison/April 30, 2014

Imagine you are home your phone ring and a voice ask you if you are (so and so ), you said no and asked back, who is this person and you got the low down of a scammer.

So here is how it work: a scammer opens up an account with a potential phone company the give them your phone number as a forwarding number then never pays their bills.

In other words they open the account and forward all calls pertaining to their phone bill to your phone, making you responsible for their calls, especially if you have an unlimited phone. And here is the kicker, you can’t change anything because that scammer has to change it with that phone company they took out the phone with. All that their phone company will do at their collection agencies, is move your phone number from their calling list.

If this happens to you report it to your local police station, so that your phone number can be remove from the low life’s phone.

Outrage don’t begin to describe the amount of phone calls collection agencies make to you.

You are advised to contact your phone carrier and notify them of what is happening to you.
