Glenroy D` Marsh, paid his dues carrying the design industry’s torch for 20 years plus; making trends, dominating runways and staying ahead of the fashion games. The CEO, of D~ Marsh Couture and Ready to Wear designs are the rave. His designs are made to please you. Your eyes will never fail you should you enter his boutique. He is humbly grateful and Stately in his decorum’s. It was years since my first interview with him at a cosey coffee house close to the Fashion Institute in Manhattan.
Marsh’s office and boutique’s locations are in midtown Manhattan, thus, on the day of my latest interview with him it was a crisp October afternoon, not too cold and not too warm. One might say it was pleasant. Upon reaching my destination he met me in the waiting room. His present carried weight…as he is 6 foot plus and walked with a purposeful stride. And although he was a tad older, he looked as young as ever.
After feeding me coffee, he showed me around. Thereafter, we sat down for the exclusive. Though he was successful he did not wear it on the shoulder. He made sure he stayed one of us. My first question to him must have given him nostalgia because here he reminded me of our very first meet stating, “It was 20 years ago, you gave me the ok to say I can do it;” putting me on the spot when it was his hard work that got him where he is today.
When asked how do you see the industry today, he said, “Looking at the industry now it’s interesting, back then people were more creative. Now, its not making it fun and about entertainment. People don’t design anymore. I prefer back then.”
Marsh’s first designs showcased in the hotel industry, first at Superclubs, where he marketed those designs to international guests resulting in a huge success cementing him into the world of fashion. Making his mark, thereafter he coasted to stardom. and became known for exquisite designs. Becoming influential and someone to be reckoned with, he had made it. He noted, “Doing it just tells me that I can do this. The more than capable designer have two design brands on the market, D~ Marsh Couture and Ready to Wear designs.
Conversely, Marsh floated into the world of designing, stating, that there are two folds to designing because it’s easier also because he knows his demographics and what it is people needs to wear. “People want what they see and its easier because we never follow trends,” Marsh said. “I know because I have been doing it for 20 years” he said.
“I have done about 70 shoes in 4 countries per year. Fashion have evolved more to A I.” “20/20 during the Covid-19 pandemic, I asked myself, what am I going to do to keep myself alive and I came up with the idea to move to Ghana. Africa, to do Fashion Master Classes; not to set up a school but to work with Fashion Schools there to Teach,” declared Marsh. Thus far, his regiment has work out very well.
In addition, the CEOI said, “I have always been a dreamer. I have ambitions and have always reached for the stars. For some it seems impossible, but I think it and dream it and that works for me.” “Being a CEO, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I have always been a leader and work for myself,” he said. “Everything is hard, it’s really 50/50. The easy part of my company is being CEO, and the hard part is finding good people to work with.” “I believe I can be one of the leaders in the industry one day,” he said seriously.
Moreover, he revealed that people’s aggravations are his inspirations. “It just depends on what catches his eyes. “I am always working on new designs…the now, which makes the new brands stay alive, he explained.”
Flawless, in his creations he is also effective and sort after. He is sure about himself and his brands Reachable, he has people who inspires him which includes Valentino, Coco Chennel, and Alexander McQueen. His brands are for both men and women.
Sprouting a bit of new news, the relevant designer revealed that he is in the process of creating a new Spring collection for 2025, which is already suited to various markets as you read this article. The Sauvey designer also noted that he was looking to expand his reach into larger international markets namely, Guyana, Europe, Asia, South America, Hong Kong, Soul, Malaga, Paris and Sudan. And explain pointedly that he wouldn’t mind putting on much bigger and grander shows here in the United States.
When asked what’s the one country you would put on (The Show), he said hands down, it would have to be Brazil. Marsh also conceded that he is going to teach in more countries but had reservations about finding an all-star cast.
Finishing conversely, Marsh ended with, ” Your lifestyle brand, we formulate them ourselves; the creams, scrubs, candles, ties and powders., Everything is created by and for D! Marsh. I will devote myself 5 to 5, five years and 5 lists, putting emphasis on yes, itself.”
