FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STATEMENT BY COMMISSIONER ROSEMONDE PIERRE-LOUIS ON THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF PASSAGE OF THE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT (VAWA)

Posted  By: C. Harrison/Sept 13, 2014

“Today I am honored to celebrate the 20th anniversary  of the passage of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which dramatically enriched the way in which we respond to domestic violence, Rosemonde Pierre-Louis, Commissioner of the NYC Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence.  In New York City, VAWA has significantly expanded protections and services for victims of domestic violence allowing the City to create the largest network of NYC Family Justice Centers in the United States, expand safe emergency shelters, increase the availability of civil legal assistance and conduct early intervention services. There have been so many remarkable accomplishments since VAWA was first created and we have made great strides in the last 20 years…..but there is still more work to be done. As we mark this important milestone, let us renew our commitment to eradicating gender based violence, ” She said.

The one time that this Journalist ever spoke to Hopeton Lewis, was donkey years ago, when he was doing a show at Club Carrib, in New Rochelle. I wanted to do a piece on his career. At that time 2001, he was doing shows all over the place and I thought at the time it was a good idea. Needless to say, he gave me his number but the timing was never materialized, so I left it alone he was too busy giving of his time. Generous is more like it to describe him.

He has always answered the call whenever one come calling for a gospel singer. His yearly shows draw reggae gospel lovers from all corners of the globe. He will be missed…Reggae Music Lovers, Christians are not, listen to him. A pioneer in his own rights he has help to engrave Reggae Gospel Music into the lifestyles of today consciousness and people from around the globe. Truly a Jamaican Stalwart Hopeton Lewis, has  also helped to catapults Reggae Gospel Music, onto the world stage.  He died at age 66, Sept 4, 2014, gone too young.  Our condolences to his Family

THE SPIRITER

JONE ALEXANDER RIVERS

By: C. Harrison/Sept 7, 2014/8:11pm

What is there to say, I only know of and see her on TV; listen to her jokes some were good and other well, one could say poor taste but it was her way of thinking. And whatever she stated she deem it the raw truth…they were her jokes and we laugh at it and her words. The people she criticized are all mad; some took it humorously but other didn’t see the joke in it.

For all her faults and ups & downs; she took it all in stride and march forward…using her witts and spirit-minded ways to give her that push…she stood her ground and made it. As a woman I admired that in her. I am sure she left a road map for young sassy-women comedians all over the world to follow in her foot steps or avoid some of them all together.  She was Brazen; Jone Did It Her Way and loved every moment to the bitter end.

Ripped…..She died Thursday, Sept 4, 2014, at age 81. Buried Today, Sunday, Sept 7, 2014…At Temple Emanu-El -New York City.      My Condolences to her Family.

New York, NY…..with the help of public relations  coordinator to the stars, Mary Moore, Sofia’s Restaurant dole out the red carpet and shone the spot light on the Urban Wolf Symphony Band…Greg Hines and his family.  August 6, 2014, was the date to dined at Sofia’s, when the Urban Wolf Symphony band threw down at the cozy…trendy spot; to a room full of delightful fans, guest and media personnel. The band’s mantra’s  “This Ain’t Your Grandfather Jazz or Is it.”

The band showed of their style of talent with the brand signature of combining Jazz with hip-hop; something very special to here. This Techno sound with this selection of talented instrumentalist was terrific and delightful to listen to. The experience was wonderful, especially if you are a music enthusiast… like myself, who loves all types and kinds of music. If you have never heard of this combination of music you have been deprived. The music is up tempo, trendy….feel good sing along, move your feet…spirited and lively…an atmosphere of get up and dance, very hip-with all the flavors of todays trends.
