Prince Roger Nelson,  affectionately called Prince, was a genus by everyone that heard him sing and play. Today, he was R.I.PED from us, gone too soon at age of  57.  Prince’s body  was found at his Paisley Park studio, at his home in Minnesota, MN at 9: 45 this morning.  It was reported that he was battling flu-like systems.  It was last week on his way to a planned concert that his plane made an emergency stop where he was briefly hospitalize and released.

Prince was a painfully shy person yet un-detour by anyone.  He made many go up against each other for bragging rights back in high school which was between him, Michael Jackson and Boy Gorge. He was also seen has an activist artist, who led the way to changes and how the Music Industry do business. He fought and won the fight from Warner Bros. And thereafter changed his name to a symbol. Prince became the number 2 biggest artist in America during the 1980s; in 1984 with the release of his album Purple Rain followed by the movie release with the same name Purple Rain, he transcended.

Accordingly, back then  not yet quiet 17,  I was bright eye high school kid, who’s best friend Anita was her purple badness.  She came to school everyday dress like Prince.  Naturally, when the album and movie came out we took to the Sunrise Mall, our second home, where of course Anita was fully dress like none other than Prince.  Needless to say,  we saw the movie several times. Purple was the fashion trend for almost a decade during that era.

Prince was versatile, he could sing and infused Rock, Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, a bit of Country and just about any genre in between. He was also  a magician with the guitar and could play almost anything. He even became a serious Actor. Dubbed the greatest Artist of his generation Prince won 7 Grammy Awards and got 30 nominations, with 5 singles topping the charts and 14 singles on the top 10 charts and won an Oscar for Purple Rain.  He was also one hect of a Producer. He came into this world to do a job, sing, and he created a legacy which will be felt and talked about for generations to come. He is gone but will never be forgotten, he lives on through his music.

Some of his biggest hit includes: “Purple Rain,” “I Want To Be Your Lover,” “Little Red Covette,” Let Go Crazy,” “When Doves Cry,” “The Most Beautiful Girl,” “!999,” and “Cream” to name a few. Born June 7, 1958 he died April 21, 2016.  Forever Prince, this is a significant blow to a fragile Music Industry.

A CELEBRATION OF LOVE THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT

LADY GAIL  AND MICHEAL GILLINGS BIRTHDAY AND FASHION SHOW MILESTONE!

M Gilling BDay celebration 1 caption C. Harrison 1

By: C. Harrison/April 20, 2016

It was advertised for weeks  by various people and it apparently had its roots. It was also not the first time that Lady Gail and Sir Michael Gillings, travel the road of being serenaded; but, this Journalist had the pleasure of witnessing the serene eloquence of their 50th sere nation and it was my very first time at this particular annual event.  I loved it.  The extravaganza took place April 17, 2015 at the Château Royal, on Francis Lewis Blvd, in Queens-Long Island, border.

The Theme ‘White on White’  a mosaic panoramic view in all direction. It was also standing room for some because it seemed like the entire community came out to show their love for this immaculate couple;  who show grace, poise, and strength.

At the very beginning before the dancers came out they told us that the feel of the show would be like the movie Coming to America,  and to my surprise it sure felt that way; only, in the movie, they had more of everything and a much bigger budget, but what was missing in budgeting, was made up for in ambience… great food and a spirit of you belonging surrounded by friends and well wishers, celebratory and of course pure and simple fun.  I enjoyed very moment.

Accordingly, Michael, thee designer, didn’t disappoint…..models stout their stuff on the red carpet to the delight of the crowd who cheered them on. Michael pondered to the crowd with his latest new elegance fashions.  Young models glided onto the red carpet with the signature cat-walk and some even dazzled the crowd with entertainment.  All told, they were fabulous. This crowd liked the fact that full figured models were mixed in with the regulars… which made the evening more interesting and everyone seemed pleased.

I must say,  it is not everyday we see black couples in this light. The only time we get to see anything close to this, is on TV.  Or taken to the First Couple,  Mr. and Mrs. Obama. Whom we all think have this kind of connect with each other and their family.

I’m  glad I got the chance to experience this in real life.  Has you will see, the pictures  which speak a thousand words.  Much much credence to the lovely couple.

BACKLASH ON THE NEW CLARION HOTEL AT GUY R. BREWER BLVD AND SPRINGFIELD GARDENS

QUEENS RESIDENTS SAY NO MORE HOTELS LIKE THESE IN THEIR BACKYARD

Queens New York,…… A meeting was held recently at the Herbert Birch School, at 145-02 Farmers Blvd, with owners of a newly mint Clarion Hotel, located at the corner of 147th  Ave and Guy R. Brewer Blvd and Spring field Gardens, to discuss the opening of the Clarion Hotel at that location and to ensure that if said hotel was to open, there would be jobs for local residents.

The meet was held in conjunction with Senator James Sander Jr., Queens Community Board 13, SpringGar, and the United Neighbors Civic Association (UNCA).

The New Hotel is 1.5 miles away from JFK Airport, it is close to the 105 Precinct and 1.2 miles from the Long Island railroad. There is a deli across the street, a restaurant and a check cash. and conveniently, there is a bus stop right at the corner where one could catch the: # 111, 112, 113 and 114 buses into Jamaica Ave shopping areas and links to the local subway stations. There is also the $1:00 Vans and Taxi cabs running up and down that Ave. And both managers live within proximity to the hotel.

The drawback, a local school right across the street at 146 Street and a car lot right across the street not to mention a truck stop adjacent next to the hotel property and residences complaint of nonsense of drug use in that area theft and the facts of other hotels in the area, using their Hotels to bring in homeless people when their hotels cannot make decent profits. This action by the hotels residents complaints have changed the dynamics of the neighborhood and they don’t want anymore hotels going up in their neighborhoods.

According to the two managers, Richie Dhillion and Haman Anand, the Hotel will be upscale in nature. They said the Hotel is a Choice Hotel Franchise. They maintain that an assessment was done and it was found that there is a demand for hotel rooms in the Queens area. They also claim to be in partnerships with all the other hotels in the Queens area-who calls them daily, due to the fact that, they have 10 other hotels in the area and that the two of them are on call 24 hours a day, in case of interference. Both stated that they have stayed in the neighborhood late late at night and that the neighborhood is safe to them. Both moreover added that they did their own assessments; but, it sounded like apart from them staying late at night and have spoken to their neighbors at the deli and restaurant, no other assessment was done on their part. The stats both men contends is on their side.

The two managers furthermore countered that,  “Their will be security personals on hand as well as another manager and 60 to 70 cameras will be posted in and outside the premises.  Rates will be daily and confer with other upscale hotels in the area.   “They said that employees will have a chance to move up in the service business and pay wage will be fair at market rate.”  One draw back here is, the two managers are not the real owners of the Hotel or the 10 other hotels, their parents are.

At the moment the finishing touches are being added to the Hotel and they are looking to interview potential employees. One recent draw back was theft at the hotel; where thieves made of with several main items. The Clarion Hotel at 147 Avenue plans to open June 1, 2016, after franchise big wigs come in and do their assessments.

After viewing the area for myself, this Journalist thinks an opening is possible, if the managers keep their word that they will not bring in homeless people if profits doesn’t come in as planned and keep the rate at market value and hire professionals to run the day to day as well as to make sure superior security is on the premises.

As a Queens resident what is your take on this Hotel going up at this site-location? See hotel below. (photo credit C. Harrison)
