Sandy Tax Abatement Bill Co-sponsored by Senator Malcolm Smith

Now Signed Into Law

(Queens, NY)—State Senator Malcolm A. Smith is proud to have been a co-sponsor of a  Sandy Tax Abatement Bill (A.9576-A/S. 7257-A) that was just signed into law this week by Governor Andrew Cuomo. It prevents property owners from being slammed with higher taxes for making storm damage repairs after Hurricane Sandy.

“I am proud to have been a co-sponsor of this legislation which will ensure that homeowners are protected as they rebuild and prepare for the future which could bring more extreme weather,” Smith said.  “I have seen firsthand the devastation that Hurricane Sandy caused in areas like the Rockaways and how deeply a hurt families who basically lost everything that they owned. New Yorkers, are resilient and they have been fighting  hard to rebuild, and we should be doing everything we can to help them.

Kelly Fitzpatrick aka KP,  was not a surprise to the music world, but the KP Fitz Movement is and it is taking the country by storm especially, Country Music Fans. The CD  called  “A Different Kinda Country,” is stirring up a fuss, fans are loving it. Even people who don’t normally listen to country music or is a once in a while listener to country music, is raving about it.

” It’s true I created a new sound.  It as been attempted before but, I came up with it. The sound came from my soul,  My grandfather brought it up north from Alabama and it got stuck with me. It’s my roots,” stated Fitz.

We met up at the Fox Network Building in Manhattan, around the corner at a small quaint café to do this story. The greet was met with broad smiles and warm hugs.  It was decided there and then that KP Kelly Fitzpatrick, is a keeper. He was the real deal, genuine.

As a young lad, Fitz, joined a Hollywood Cowboy Show, and his main job was to  literally pick up horse poo.  He later graduated from that position to singing backup for stars of the show.  Eventually, people would come up to him and ask why he wasn’t  singing leads or singing up front, instead of doing backups. For this reason he got fired and the decision to start his own musical journey began.

According to Fitz, the KP Fitz Movement, is all about introducing something different to the Entertainment Industry. It is about change and innovation.  “When you hear my music you will turn up your radio,” he said.  He also noted that his sound is a new kinda country, which could be moved into any kind of genre and could help rear young black country artist. It is also a merger or go between Country and Urban music.

“When I wrote my songs, I was thinking what could I do, what can I bring that’s different, and I thought a universal sound, to bring people together,” Fitz articulated.

When asked about his Billboard numbers at 6 and 13 on the singles sales chart, he explained it cordially,  ” I felt like I had arrived. It let me know that the public was ready for something new and I am that drink.  Ever since I was a kid I was an entertainer. It came from church rearing and a gift from God,” he conversed.   The gifted  singer also explained that he wrote his first song at age 13, and that he loved it.  From there, he said,  “I  learned how to mixed songs, sounds and music and here I am today, sitting across a table from a Journalist.  I just have it, a natural born gift,” confided the young singer.

Additionally, the first song on Fitz’s album is  “Cruisin,” a song that was first sang by Smokey Robinson at Motown and is now sang over country style, by Fitz and Smokey.  Commenting on what it was like to sing  with an Americana (Icon), like Smokey;  Fitz said that he was grateful for the chance to not only meet one of his idol’s, but to sing with him was priceless. In addition, Fitz’s reaction to the fact that the father of Motown, Barry Gordy, likes his music was put this way:  ” I am overjoyed that Barry loves my album.  When Mr. Motown himself, tells you that you  are doing something good; speechless, out of body experience. Another moment in your timeline when you say,  what just happened,” Fitz conceded.   Moreover, this sound mixer, contents that other country artist that have helped his career in way of inspiration and admiration are: Garth Brooks, Tim McGrath, Johnny Cash, Conway  Twitty, and Charlie Pride.

Again, when asked what he like so much about the two genres, Country and Urban music, so much so that he had to incorporate them? He revealed that R & B is naturally in him and Country Music is the same, so there was no other choice but to do both.

Conversely, Fitz’s quintessential answer for what inspires him most and who he was really; he revealed that everybody and everything and languages inspires him. He said if its good (music) he will listen.  ” Kelly Fitzpatrick, is totally a different person from his musical side and away from the stage. It’s night and day. The person off state is quiet and reserve,”  the singer pronounced.

Finally, in imposing the last question to him, I asked him — how do you think you came to be where you’re today?  I think I am where I am is hard work and dedication.  For me to be where I am is also my manager, Earl.  I am where I am because of my talent but I have a team of people behind me. I give credit to them,  but my manager is key—he is the glue.”  “A Different Kinda Country,” is in stores and online.

Maya-Angelou[1]

Maya Angelou, was to all the purest. Her poem are national treasures and she, was a gift from the Highest of High. She came into this world handed to us from God, he who is called the Beginning and the End.  Loved by all she reached out to the world through poems and through her teachings. A beloved to us all, we saw her has a trailblazer, a mother, a teacher, a spiritual guider and a lover of all man kind.  She have walked a path to glory and have woven a path hopefully for us to follow. She is a beacon that will shine brightly in the future even though she as ascended. We already missed her, gone at 86 years young.
