Coming off a highly successful fashion spread in New York City,  commemorating his 30- year Anniversary doing Airbrush, Tamil Robinson show us how its done. With a full standing room of young people, I immediately saw why he became the Trendy Fashion Mogul.

I was late but thankfully the show began as I entered and right away  models paraded down the run-way.  I could see that this guy was no ordinary Moscato D’Asti, his patterns and styles were vibrant,  cutting edge and exotic; I knew then,  why he was called a trailblazer. All told, everyone was exuberant has cameras flick and flashes blind and numb the eyes for a minute. No one, young and old could take there eyes of the run way, afraid to miss something, Tamil’s latest.  Fascinated, this Journalist wanted to know more, days later I had a revealing interview with Mr. Robinson.

According to the fashion Guru, he was in the Fashion Industry 15-years before deciding to go to China. He when to enhance his skills in the genre. He had been going to China  on and off for  years but,  to do fashion in a big way, he stayed in China for a bit to educate himself.  After coming back to the states in 2008, Robinson immersed himself into becoming that fashion mogul.

Now getting somewhere in the fashion world he began weaving a path for himself and quickly became a trailblazer. He was not called trailblazer for nothing, even though he went to China to further the cause, Robinson was already an excellence pupil at it;  he was classically trained  in the Arts. He love It,  it is his passion and he is excellence in turning fabrics into mosaic paintings.

Robinson said,  “I know how to Paint and  Airbrush. Being a person of color, we are not getting the respect for trailblazing for the different styles we bring to the table. I created my own Textile Patterns to be totally different; my Textile, tells the story. My Textiles are exclusive to my brand. I get calls from Europe because people thought that my Textiles come from there. For a Textile Fabrication to call me for my Textile Patterns, is a complement to me.”

When asked if he was not making fashion happened for him, what would he be doing with his life or career right now? “I would be doing Arts shows, if I was not doing what I am doing now. I would be painting on canvas and Interior Designs. I have a degree in it. I want to do a signature series of painting in the next 5-years.”

In addition, Robinson, explained that he doesn’t really keep up with fashions because he know how to create his own colors just by the textiles alone.” “I cut my own path, I can do it at the last minute, if need be.” I designed my own luggage’s. I used to carry Louis Vuitton, Gucci and other designer’s luggage.  I asked myself why am I logging around with other peoples name and I got my own, so I read up on what to do and how to it and decided to create my own.” “These people will never give back to the hood.”

What next for the astonishing designer is, he wants to tighten-up his Shoes and Bag Production Line and to bring in technology into his brand. The fashion jetsetter,  just signed an exclusive deal for Textile Technology Designs, which is patented to him like all his brands.  ” All of the urban fashions, the industry  already have most of it, so I had to go out and create my own, ” said the fashion trendsetter.

Moreover,  when ask he articulated that he isn’t really  out front in the Fashion Industry . “I am not in the category like Damian and others, I was behind the scene. I started out at 17 or 18 years old, out of high school doing Airbrush, making my own money. By the time I graduated I went traveling and kept working…keeping my following going by keeping in touch with them.” Robinson, attended the Prestigious Art High School in Newark, New Jersey, where its alums includes celebs like: vocal legend Sarah  Vaughn, Connie Francis, Melba Moore, and actress-singer Tisha Campbell.

“I want to being real Fashion to people; like Barry Gordon did for Motown.” “If the opportunity to setup shop uptown happens, I could do that but no, I don’t see myself doing that.”  “What we are going to do is do some commercials and sell from there.  I am concentrating on opening up my own Sewing Factory down town Newark, New Jersey. I want to employ real people and create jobs. I have people who sew for me now such as Donna Karen and others but I want my own,” he quipped.”I want to inspired our people. Everybody is not going to be a superstar, basketball player or a movie star. For a artist coming out of the hood, it’s very hard. “I have over 20-years in this industry, so I could cultivate a young person in what I am doing if they don’t have it, to go to college,” he revealed.

Robinson’s House of Fashion includes: TRG-Tamil Robinson Group, the House of AMIAT, T.A.M.I.L. by Tamil Robinson, RCONIC Collections by AMIAT, and Haute Couture Label & BESPOKE by TAMIL. Professionally, he holds an official license with MLB (Major League Baseball) Legacy 42 MLB licensed-Fashion Forward Collections. Tamil’s Fashion, will not be available until 2016.
