WAS THE TURNOUT A  TESTIMENT TO THERE IRIE THEME?

” IRIE JAM RUN THE WORLD”

First, emcees for the day consisted of Dub Master, DJ Roy and the Irie Jam team and  music  provided by: Massive B, Stone Love, Road International, GJ Calli B, The 13 Squad, Steele Bashment, Half Krazy, DubbMasters and Platinum Kidds.  Legislative Members on hand, were: (D) Senator Leroy Comrie, Congress woman Yvette Clarke and official Una Clarke and Everly Brown.

THERE IS A SAYING:  “A COMMUNITY THAT PRAY TOGETHER STAY TOGETHER.” THE QUESTION IS, IS THIS TRUE OF THE NAME SAKE IRIE JAM RADIO?. I don’t think it is an impertinent or coveted thing-to say that the generated crowd turnout at the Roy Wilkins Park, Sept 6, 2015, for Irie Jam Radio’s, 22 Anniversary was because of conceit.

The Irie Jam  Anniversary fanfare turnout in fact signaled an irrevocable commitment to the support of not only our community, but to a Radio Station WVIP,93.5 FM–that has been in our community since the birth of Jamaican Radio Programs in the New York tri-state area.

In addition,  to a Promoter whose inception into our community, gave birth to  volumes of after school programs and various activities for South East Queens, Roy Wilkins Park’s, Children; via  the shear good use of a Park that was just sitting there for years, prior to 2003.  The Promoter (Irie Jam & team), also brought in a flavorful international pie slice, of what would’ve  otherwise or certainly gone to other places and countries each annual  Labor Day Weekend. Today, because of this intrinsic strategy;  we now see more than one community-promoter, using the Park to help our community in South East Queens. The anniversary was also a success because at this time of year usually this Promoter keep what is call a Caribbean Jamboree-International style, where the entire Caribbean and the community comes together for a Jamboree

I must note here that I was glad to play an essential role in the inception process.

According to Bobby Clarke, owner of Irie Jam Radio, “We are always surprise by the crowds that we get. We were very happy with the turn out.” “We believe that the Park, is the Irie Park,” Clarke joked. On a serious note, he also articulated that the Park was the obvious venue and that they hope to be there for another 100-years.

This anniversary brought out sought after mega international stars, to the festivities including:  Assassin, who boost the crowd’s energy, with his latest album which  is a must have and came with his catalog. He is also a farce musician; a great performer and is always the driving force to watch out for– love his new album.  Dexta Daps-a young man who everyone seems to know held is own and is very much in demand right now to my surprise–from what I see will be someone to be reckoned with. Crowd pleasers Christopher Martin-had one girl also most knock me over, Ding Dong, Chi Ching Ching, Bugle, Kranium, Edwin Yearwood, Tifa and No Maddz- whose international acclaims have them working over time and was just nominated for a international reggae awards, as well as drafted by Puma, is well on track and is poise to break records for themself. “Its great thing to be nominated, it signified that people appreciate the work we do, so we aren’t loosing we have already won. We appreciate being nominated,” No Maddz stated.

Gully Bop seems to be the draw of the litter, everyone wanted to see him and take picture with him. Lets just say, he made a splash. Kymani Marley, never made it-we miss him-maybe next time but, we did not miss out because Vagas, took control and what a show he put on-much credence to him. Also on hand Micheal Palmer, nice up the party with a taste, always ready to help out…. Nuff respect to all the other artist and musicians that were actually present and on the ground. Highlights ahead.
