Yesterday I took a stroll down Hillside Ave approximately 6:30 PM, I saw people, a lot of them walking into the Satellite High School on Hillside Ave, located at 162-02. Not knowing what was going on and didn’t know at the time that this particular high school offered programs for adults; I was immediately taken, so I asked and was told that they were taken adult classes there.
Really, I was pleased because it would seem that the program is a success because, most of the people I saw attending were mostly young and adults immigrants. I was happy that our immigrant population in Queens, is taken our great borough seriously and want to be a part of it.

According to the Jamaican Press Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, though the Jamaican High Commission in Ottawa, has been monitoring the tragic and devastating fires in Fort McMurray area of Alberta, Canada, where we are aware that a number of Jamaicans work and reside.
Approximately 80,000 Canadians have been evacuated and displaced from their homes and work environs.
The Ministry commends the over 300 Jamaicans in Fort McMurray for their quick and united action which has resulted in all known Jamaican being accounted for, evacuated and in safe areas.
“The Jamaicans in Fort McMurray are a tight-knit group. They are all in accommodation, whether with relatives, private accommodation, or shelters,” explains H. E. Janice Miller, High Commissioner for Jamaica to Canada.
A testimony to the camaraderie that has been exercised is the planned meeting of Jamaicans from Edmonton and Fort McMurray, with one objective being to document the concerns of the displaced Jamaicans and the impact of the fire.
The Jamaican High Commission in Ottawa, The Jamaican Association of Northern Alberta (JANA), the Association of Jamaicans in Fort McMurray, along with the Honorary Consul for Jamaica in Edmonton have over the past week, been in constant communication as they sought to ensure that all known Jamaicans were accounted for and in suitable accommodations.
Jamaicans in Fort McMurray are employed in the hospitality sector and also as high-skilled tradesmen, electricians and auto mechanics. Additionally, there are a number of Jamaicans enrolled as foreign students.
The province of Alberta has today released on advisory encouraging all evacuees to register with the Canadian Red Cross at 1888-350=6070 or online. This information has been conveyed to all the Jamaican Honorary Consuls in Canada for wide dissemination.

The truth about mergers and acquisitions are that sometimes they are very good for us the consumers and other times well those companies who merges are in fact the ones who benefit most. Nothing we can do about it.
Most companies make millions while other just get stock value, which could or have the potential to make millions later, especially internet base companies; who I believe are playing us like a ping -pong-ball. Still yet others take a pay cut they usually say for the good of the company.
Who in these companies get the big stick-it-to-you, top tier managers and supervisors. Sometimes even VPs and CFO or CEOs…even members of the board but, the brunt some of the time are consumers. Looking on the bright side we the consumers can also say that many a times we actually benefit and that, usually happens when some of these companies literally care about us, the consumers..
As of April 1, 2016, the largest wireless company Verizon Communications Merged with Frontier Communications. This merge will impact 3.7 million landlines and 2.2 million phone connections. The deal is valued at $9.9 billion and another $600 million in assumed debts. The merge doesn’t include cell phone provider Verizon Wireless. Here, changes include who to call when the cable is out and where to send payments.
We also just learn that the FCC Commissioners approved Charter Communications In’s merge or acquisition of Time Warner Cable Inc. and Bright House Networks. This created the second largest U.S broadband provider and third largest video provider. Thus far, all involve are in favor except California who’s decision could come as early as May 12, 2016.
This Charter and Time Warner deal is valued at $56.7 billion and Bright House another $10.4 billion. The deal extended High Speed internet access to two more million customers in five years.
These two merges makes us cringe right now. All kinds of acquisitions going on right now in Business 2016, its consumer be ware. Remember Its all about who benefits and who loses we concern ourselves about.
