REVOLUTION MEDIA A COMPANY ON THE MOVE

CR CAPERS FOUNDER

CRCapersPublicity_WhiteTurtleneck

By: Editor C. Harrison/March  6, 2018/6:09 pm

New York, NY…… Her company is Revolution Media & MBS Films. It  has been in operation since 2010.  Its make up is consist of  Radio, Social Media , Film and a news Portal.  And its bases can be found in New York and New Jersey.  Charlotte Renee Capers, CR Capers, is founder and owner of this independent company,  who stands 5ft tall.  She is fascinating and has an intriguing personality.  She’s also, a very out spoken individual who’s not afraid to speak candidly about the ills of our society.  Recently, I sat with Ms. Capers to learn more about her and the future  of her company. The Savann Restaurant, in Harlem serve our purpose .

At first sight, we chatted like old friends, about Harlem, Religion and other societal matters. In essence we clicked, after-words the quest was to dig in with some hard questions; of which the first was how  her brand new media company,  in business for 5-years   leveraging social media to change narratives?

According to Capers,  “When it come to the Media there is only a small skew, but with the internet black people in particular have the power to tell the stories the way they want to reveal it. All that’s needed is the opportunity and ingenuity to do so. ” More to the point, Caper voiced that social media is the ultimate word of mouth and you are meeting people worldwide. She says you can met people with one post and that they can share it with their friends and they share it with their friends and so on. Social Media she quipped gives people a choice, she said it is powerful and gives social injustice a platform.”

The company’s claim to fame is a popular radio show and podcast showcase  “Why You Mad Son,” a program that reaches over 3 million listeners worldwide and has a loyal fan base in the hip-hop culture.

Her inclination on a black woman running a media platform is that she learned a lot. “I have learned that as a black woman in the United States, you have to be better,  as a black woman in business. You have to be five times better and always pay people for their time. The key is making sure that you make people know that you appreciate them. And there has to be sinewy,” said Capers.

Capers is one of a few black women in New York, who runs their own film company that is IMDb certified. She writes, directs, produces and shoots her company’s films. The astute young woman went to Baruch college and SUNY Pittsburgh there, she took up Broadcast Journalism. It was while here she got an opportunity to direct and made an over the top trailer, which everyone loved; it was here that she found her calling to the film industry.  She said, “I did not see finishing college has a plus or minus. I worked for Jet Aviation, Credit Risk Management and Credit Complaints, where I made six-figures. Capers is now 44-years old.

When asked if she was showing underserve filmmakers a different way to produce films;? she states, “We are not showing underserve filmmakers a different way to make films, they have to just tell a different story. We are more than the norm, the sky is the limit and we have stories to tell other than…Drugs, Money, Sex, and Violence. We are better than that.” Here again she contends that opportunity is all that’s needed.  Looking toward 2016 and the company’s  up coming Film festival, she revealed that when she first started the Hip-Hop Film Festival NYC, and looked into it, she founded that it was a scam. So, she decided to do it herself for the people.

According to Capers, how her Film Festival will work is, people will submit their Film and pay a fee of $30 or $50, for the website and features, and whatever profit it makes, her company will split or share the profits from the Film Festival with the individual or entity who submitted the film. If that individual or entity doesn’t get selected; their Film will still get to run on the  Revolution website. She said that the hold thing is set up like a regular Film Festival.

“I see my company three-years from now progressing; especially, the film festival that deals with our people in Hip-Hop that transcend race. I also see it more support, as far as community; any profit I make will go to the community out reach programs or individual who needs the help, especially in Harlem.

Thus far, under her vision and watchful eye, MBS Films has garnered three short films: “Swagmella,”  “Celie’s Revenge,” “Cabin in the Hood.”  One web series: “Mad On The Street” and Two Documentaries: Hell Up In Harlem -Stop Another Violent End and a NYCHA Film (In development) shining a spotlight on the NYC Housing Authority, the people it serve, the culture and the Government’s orchestration of low-income housing, known as projects. This up and coming media leader, also has a feature film Six Madmen, in production.

CR Capers is the middle child of Andrew and Helen Capers. She has an older sister Kim and a younger brother Christopher. She is the mother of Taylor Helena Armstead, the light of her life. Caper was married for 5-years but it ended because of domestic violence. Capers doesn’t see herself as a victim but a survivor, an advocate and supporter of all domestic abuse victims. She volunteers with Harlem Mothers Save, a group of parents who lost their children to gun violence and the Hip-Hop Cultural Center, an organization that creates positive programming for youth with hip-hop as the backdrop.

Capers was recently  named Senior Director of Business Development and Media Strategy for the Hip-Hop Cultural Center’s RapACon.  She will also be honored at he “Unlock Your Dreams” conference in NYC. As for her community activism and her ability to galvanize and motivate millions on social media she has done that.

THE CHANGING FACE OF DOWNTOWN JAMAICA AND SUPTHIN BOULVARD

OUR STORY OUR HISTORY JAMAICA QUEENS

By: Editor C. Harrison 3/3/2018

As promised the changes currently taking place on Supthin  Blvd, and Archer Avenue  was long in coming and is much over due. The changes had been in the works for many many years since 2003. Tthe Greater Jamaica Development Corporation finally  is putting the money where they sprouted it would be In our community, Thus, making the face of our community to  change forever,,,changes that have already begun. From the beginning of Supthin Blvd to the  top of  Jamaica Avenue.

Everywhere you look now there are changes going on and we were told recently by congressional members that more changes are expected in the future , the same area and South East Queens.

Going up all around town are new low income apartment buildings, as well as market rate buildings. Apartments so close to Jamaica Ave you can touch the stores. Further down by the LIRR the Long Island Rail Road… literally in walking instance across from the railroad, a brand new Hotel regal and  impressively looking,  very sleek in the skyline, changing it for good.  The out pouring of funds to the area that we were promised was secured by Melinda Katz our new borough President in Queens.

Borough President Katz,  literally with the help of Queen’s congressional members pushed the Governor, to fork over $153 billion to get the projects in Queens moving; $1.9 million of it headed towards JFK, a project that will consume our lives for the next several years simply because it’s in our back yard and we are the beneficiaries.

Moreover, when it’s all down Jamaica Queens which is already showing off its fashionable stores in high end fashios, our AirTran brining in thousands and our newly install Art Center and  soon to be  new renovated subways, Queens is shaping up to be one of the hottest stop—place to visit in the state of New York.

OUR GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

A BIT OF UNLEASHING

BY: Editor C. Harrison/1/21/2018

I am  surmising a bit because what I am reporting here is already open book. Nothing is new but I am gonna put a theory to it.

Our President, Donald Trump said alot of thing and spoke a colossal  amounts of thing in front of cameras and behind the scenes. He said that our missiles are far bigger and will hurt more people and most noted that Mexico will pay for the wall he want to build.

We know that things aren’t so. We further know that he really wanted the U.S. to pay for the wall because he knew that of course Mexico was not and couldn’t pay for it. So the purpose of the shutdown was to squeeze juice out of us and put some fire under our tail. When the Senate Dems did not budge he knew where the issue stood.

So, here is my theory what if this President really wants to turn this great nation into a third world country en-light of his actions via Putin under the gyze of pretending to run it. It certainly seems like he is running it right into the grown with no care on his part.

What if he told his children not to stay in this country after he dies thus the none-disscript attitudes towards the nation. There have to be clinical reasons they’re behaving in the decor displaying. No one in such high office has maintained and carry-on in such manner on the world stage, even if they’re  in a third world country. Something is completely out of grasp.

Everyone know what Donald Trump is and is doing and it’s hard to believe that the Republicans know and is sitting back and watching. What if this was a Democratic President (The crucifixion would be deadly)  People pay more attention.

MISSING MLK DAY

By: Editor C. Harrison

I would have been out of place or witts to miss MLK Day. Martin Luther King Jr. was too important of a man for me to remiss.

Enlight of today’s Gov. fiasco King wouldn’t have liked it one bit. He would have been on the road –telling us to get off our butts and join him for the good fight because it is too important for our country.

Democrats are fighting for the DACKA’s children, children’s healthcare and a host of other domestic issues.

Here is the thing, if Senator Schumer had give in to the President and said yes, keep the government open and we negotiate later; who is to say that Trump would not change is mind seconds later or the day after and do exactly what he and the Republicans want to do. Where would we the nation be.

The Republicans would laugh at this nation  and the Dems and go about doing business as usual  and in tow called it a victory for them. This is the reality we would have been facing and no deal.

Nobody in this nation like what is happening to our Gov. but we the people have to stick to our guns some times a line in the sand . This is what Dr. King would have wanted and done. Justice for our country.

THE MAN WHO CHANGED THE PATTY BUSINESS FOR EVER GONE FROM US BUT WILL BE REMEMBER FOR HIS LEGACY

IN MEMORY OF LOWELL HAWTHORNE

By: Editor C. Harrison/12/28/2017

Lowell Hawthorne O. D. was someone I knew for a few years now, only in passing. Passing meaning not close friends, but whenever I saw him or vice versa we greet each other cordially, either at an events or at the Consulate General in New York.

Twice in my life I actually heard from Mr. Hawthorne, once when the Diaspora Board was actually being formed and a launch took place here in New York….People complained that they usually talked but nothing gets down. Thus, thereafter I wrote up some questions and actually walked into Irwin Clare”s  office  and show him and spoke to him about the issue. Shortly thereafter I got an email from Mr. Hawthorne.  The other time was recently when he send me a friend request for Facebook.

I know him as a humble man because this is how he had always been whenever I saw him. So, imagine my bewilderment when on December 2, when I heard that he had expired and the unbelievable explanation that I heard for his death.  Shock took over.

Beloved he came to the promise land and make good for himself and his family. He accomplished what millions of Jamaicans travel to the New Worlds to gain, prosperity and to help their Home Land stay afloat. Many dream of just making it and sorely fail.

The patty business in Jamaica is a stiff business  with your “Tastes” and your “Suger N spice” patties. And here in the U.S. going up against Caribbean Delight, was a challenge and for Mr. Hawthorne to come to the U.S. and set up Golden Crust Patties and other Products and make it, is an overwhelming achievement. He even became the author of a book, so we know he had no plans of going anywhere soon thus, the shock.

His songs and legacy can’t be over look or out done because inspite of,  he shined…like a lone morning star.  He was one of Jamaica’s brightest beacon and notwithstanding some of the allegations stock against him he gave and a lot. Mr. Hawthorne was one of the good ones and although we question why because we, some of us can find our way out of sticky jams; sometimes some feel there is no way out, which is not true but at hens moment one don’t see through to the other side clearly. He was a brother a father a son and he was loved by all. Enough can’t be said of his goodness to others. Patience, is really a virtue.

Mr. Hawthorne O. D.  is gone but his  will to  live, lives on through his legacy and he certainly will never be forgotten.

Mr. Hawthorne’s funeral took place Tuesday, December 19, 2017  at the Christian Cultural Center…12020 Flatlands Avenue, Brooklyn. He had an arousing send off..

Mr. Hawthorne left behind His wife, three sons, one daughter  and countless relatives. His sun rose  May 1, 1960 and his sun set December 2, 2017. He was a Godly man and in death we hope he found peace.

A RISING STAR IN THE HOLLYWOOD SCREENWRITING ARENA

KAYCEE ROYAL A 21st CENTURY WRITER

By: Editor C. Harrison/12/27/2017

Kaycee Royal is an up and coming screenwriting star finding her way through the maze of who is who in the Hollywood screenwriting arena. Though she is no stranger to the game of screenwriting, she is now in sync in her reproach to give and show Hollywood,  what she is made of and what she can do.

Kaycee began her writing styles and hone her particular skills from the age of 16. She is the founder and CEO of Kaycee Royal Production. Kaycee, is also an Entertainment Executive, a screenwriter and a Film Producer in her own rights. Her company has been in operation since 2013.  The company’s motto is: A New Company That Leverage Social Media to Change the Narrative.

In an October 13,  phone interview with Kaycee Royal, this Journalist learned just how straight forward the matriculated producer could be when she sprouted the following.  “I am not the one to spark a conversation, I write. Writing helps me to portray who I am. I want to share my truth. I want others to share what I am and what I have to do. This is what I am here for,” stated K. Royal.

After this comment I paid attention and galvanized to hear her further propensity. The consolation for me getting to know Kaycee better was her three up coming projects,  soon to be release.

Her quest I surmised for making these projects must be relevant stories. My first inclination was to get her insight on her first project “Secret Lives,” which, in itself, gives off a mystique imagination.

Secret Lives,” tells the story of powerful women behind power-house men and women; whether the situation calls for men with men or women with women or just individuals. It tells a tale of how these characterize women work behind the scenes with these labeled people, going about doing for them what they do best.

According to Kaycee, she knows people who are dealing in these types of situation. They are  she noted being judged because they have dealth with and is dealing with people who are entangled with significant others. She said,   “everybody is scrutinizing them and that she just wants to show why.” ” Why, they’re doing what they do. These women are successful with degrees. I want to shed light on why they deal with these types of men and women,” she noted

When asked if she believes these types of people have to be born or some how setup via program a certain way, to deal with such individuals? She said clearly, “You do have to have a six sense.” “These women have the best of the best.” “They go to A-list parties and different events.” “It’s just something extended to do and I decided to do it,” said Kaycee.

In addition, Kaycee in a matter of factly way explained that each women’s character, has literally met powerful men and women in their life time just like these labeled characters. She contends that it comes down to what they were told.

“The characters of these women behind the scene are getting everything the wives and significant others are getting but, with out the hassle,” revealed Kaycee.  Its real life scenarios.

The Producer’s second project was “Dangerously In Love,” Upon seeing so many kinds of these film, I had to ask of its significance and relevancy the big why? And what made her want to tackle a subject matter such as this? I also ask her if it is because the subject matter is the flavors of the day?

“This is what’s happening now. Men fall in love all the time. It’s a story to tell; I feel if I wanted to tell a story whether it being men on men or women on women, this is one of them, that story,” equipped Kaycee.

Kaycee’s last project is “Stepping Up Your Game.” She divulge here  “I am focusing on different types of people and what is going on in their  lives; as well as their particular dance moves from across the world,”   She also confirmed that the dancers are slated from around the globe.

“I have younger cousins and they know all the new crave in dance moves and what is new and good.” said the liberal thinker.

On what sets her and her films apart, she said, ” it’s me.” “Its all because of me. I feel this is all me. I am showing the world a part of myself. What I am and who I am. I am giving all as well as to conform with the part.”

Kaycee,  also voiced that her company is an established brand and since its inception,  it  has expanded everyday.  She said, “It is a big difference now,  how people want to work with me,” revealed the Film produce.

Unequivocally, the guidance of Kaycee’s steady hand in wearing her company steadfastly was the stability in her up bringing; where she grew up with two beautiful women, her mother and grandmother via self motivation combine with innovation. Here,  we see a solid foundation for a good formula.

Kaycee adhere to her self this way,  “So, instead of saying certain things and staying quiet, I am happy I did not put myself into certain situation in the industry that could have harm me,” said Kaycee.

Moreover, she confess that the industry can be cut throat. adding also that she comes across a broad spectrum of personalities and she love it because they give her ideas everyday.

Conversely,  Kaycee  continued outspokenly  with the following,  “I like most that I am independent and that people are ok with the fact that I have my own opinions. More importantly, I am moving in the right direction. It’s a blessing.”

In ending what was a revealing interview Kaycee reiterate, “If I had to do it all over again, I would do it sooner. Right now it’s going exactly has I planned it to go. It is on a good path. I can’t complain. Things are  going smoothly.” ”

“The three projects are what we are working on and to get a broader space,” Finish Kaycee.
