Smith is proud to have been a co-sponsor of a\u00a0 Sandy Tax Abatement Bill (A.9576-A\/S. 7257-A) that was just signed into law this week by Governor Andrew Cuomo. It prevents property owners from being slammed with higher taxes for making storm damage repairs after Hurricane Sandy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am proud to have been a co-sponsor of this legislation which will ensure that homeowners are protected as they rebuild and prepare for the future which could bring more extreme weather,&#8221; Smith said.\u00a0 &#8220;I have seen firsthand the devastation that Hurricane Sandy caused in areas like the Rockaways and\u00a0how deeply a hurt families who basically lost everything that they owned.
