New York, Queens….A celebration of Black History, took place at Queens Borough Hall recently. The African American Heritage Committee putted on what was a spectacular show of what it ment to be black; to honor our ancestral pass and to give back to those in our community who have put in and done wonders for our community…\u00a0 showed\u00a0perseverance & \u00a0stride and is\u00a0displaying great promises; leaders ands scholars<\/p>\n

The\u00a0African American Heritage\u00a0 celebration of Black History, took place at borough hall’s Helen Marshall Cultural Center, February 26, 2018.\u00a0 The celebration\u00a0 began with invocation by Pastor John H, Boyd 11 , The national Anthem by Regina Wilson \/FDNY. Open remarks\u00a0came from\u00a0\u00a0Andrew P. Jackson (Sekou Molefi Baako) Master of Ceremonies & Chair and \u00a0African American Heritage Committee member. \u00a0Greetings were done by the Honorable Melinda Katz, Queens Borough President, Kiana Newell, sang Glory\u00a0\u00a0and keynote remarks was given by\u00a0 Rev.Dr. Lesile Mullings, Community Church of the Nazarens, Rockaway NY.<\/p>\n

Scholarship Awards\u00a0Presentations were given out by Borough President\u00a0 Katz \u00a0and the African American Heritage Committee. The Spirit Award was presented by Sonia Banks.<\/p>\n

Cardozo High School; Kezian Diego…Scholar’s Academy; Meicha Hall…Francis Lewis High School; Alexis Martin…Townsend Harris High School; Tearah Harrigan…Hillcrest High School; Shaquille Profitt…William Cullen Bryant High School; Jasmine Hitlall…Saint Francis Preparatory High School and Leah Solomon…Hillcrest High School. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Reverend Leslie Mullings\u00a0 the Spirit Award recipient…Founder and CEO of\u00a0 Preparatory Charter School, Far Rockaway NY.\u00a0 Dr. Ola Akinbobye.. MD, MBA, FACC< MPH, FACP recipient of the Science Award;\u00a0 The Caribbean’s Patricia Dorothy Chin, founder and CEO of VP Records, received a Lifetime Achievement Award; Thomas\u00a0 “Tom” Carter Jr….owner, \u00a0founder\u00a0 and publisher of the New York Page was\u00a0recipient of the Journalism Award; Harriet Diaz…received the Education Award; Harold Dow…recipient of the Business Award….<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dwight Leland Johnson…received the Queens Borough President Award, he\u00a0is a Queens native, a former New York City Transit Authority worker and holds an Associates Degree in Electrical and Computer Technology. he holds management certificate, an asbestos\u00a0\u00a0Supervisor’s\u00a0\u00a0license and also hold a Real Estate License….\u00a0 Michelle Stoddart…recipient of the Civic Award. Stoddart\u00a0 was part of the executive team who handled the record-breaking\u00a0 attendance during the Casino’s\u00a0 Debut Weekend in October 2011.\u00a0Prior to\u00a0her position to RWNY, she was the Director of Marketing\u00a0& tourism for Queens\u00a0\u00a0Economic Development.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The room full to capacity with well wisher, family members, Queens Official\u00a0 Delegate and members of the press, all enjoyed the ceremonies and look forward to next year.<\/p>\n
