New York , NY….The Rhythm and Blues Foundation hosted its first of the year, Black Music Month after work fundraiser, commemorating the “soul of the 90’s and R&B tributes. The event took place June 23, at the luxurious Attic Rooftop Lounge in Time Square, located at the Hilton, 251 W 48 Street, NYC. The event was\u00a0anchored by Music icon, Michael Bivins\u00a0of the fame group New Addition.\u00a0\u00a0The star studded line up included groups from the \u00a090’s and 80s via\u00a0Allure, Dunte from Ruffends, Royal Bayyan from Cool & the Gang, amongst others; were on hand for this celebration.\u00a0\u00a0Intro. Celebrity DJ’s included: dj Jon Quick and\u00a0dj Commish provided the soundtrack of the 90s. Monies raise for the night were $3500.00.<\/p>\n

The Rhythm & Blues Foundation, Inc.\u00a0was founded in 1988, it is a non profit organization dedicated to the historical and cultural preservation of Rhythm & Blues music, and recognition of contribution of its participants to our musical heritage.<\/p>\n

The foundation provides financial and medical assistance, educational outreach, performance opportunities and archival activities to support its constituents and fulfill its mission. It also presents special events and other programs to recognize artistic contributions and excellence within the Rhythm & Blues musical genre.<\/p>\n

The policies and programs of the Foundation are determined by its Board of Directors and Advisory Board comprised of representatives of Rhythm & Blues diverse\u00a0 community. The Board is made up of: artists, member of the entertainment and music industries, and representatives of the fields of education, public relations, Journalism, and Financial Management and other interests.<\/p>\n

The Foundation also promotes public appreciation for Rhythm & Blues as a distinct American musical genre and administer grant programs and other services to address financial needs of distressed Rhythm & Blues artists.<\/p>\n

The Foundation is national and reopened its doors at its new location in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where it has partner with Kenny Gamble’s Universal Companies. Services are provided for artists from the 1940 through to 1970s, while catering to emerging Rhythm & Blues artists. The foundation serve as a bridge\u00a0from past to present artists.<\/p>\n

The Beacon for and behind the forming of this service to her Community and fellow musicians was Ruth Brown a rhythm & Blues singer, whose hit songs,\u00a0made Atlantic Records, the house that Ruth build.\u00a0 Ms. Brown according to Adam Bernstein, of the Washington Post, noted that, “Ms. Brown, who lived in Henderson, a Las Vegas suburb, became known as a persistent and vital activists in the musicians’ royalty reform movement of the 1980s.” “Her efforts brought aging, often ailing musicians payments that major music companies had long denied them.” Ms. Brown died Nov 17, at St Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson, Nev., after a stroke and heart attack, she was 78.<\/p>\n
