Borough President Accepting Applications To Serve On Community Education Councils<\/strong><\/p>\n Borough President to Appoint Members to Important Education Policy Advisory Bodies<\/p>\n Queens, New York….Borough President Melinda Katz, is accepting applications from qualified community and education -minded individuals to serve as a 2015-2017 Borough President Appointee to the Queens’ Community Education Councils (CECs).<\/p>\n The CECs allow for parent involvement at the Community School District level and play an essential role in shaping education policies for New York City public schools.\u00a0 They are education policy advisory bodies that have a number of important responsibilities, including reviewing and evaluating a district’s educational programs, approving zoning lines and\u00a0holding public hearings.<\/p>\n “CECs are meant to ensure parental input in our school system,” Katz said. “It is critical to have parents be an integral part of the decision making process to shape and set education policies.” We urge folks to apply,” she said.<\/p>\n The Borough President appointee will serve for a two-year term\u00a0from July1, 2015-June 30, 2017.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 A Borough President appointee must either live in or own or operate a\u00a0business in the Community School\u00a0District served by the CEC that he or she is appointed to.
